Southern Belle’s Bloom Early
The term ‘Southern belle’ dates back to the pre-civil war era of America, also known as the Antebellum period. The alternative term is debutantes. This term was reserved for young women who had just come of age and were ready to be part of the mature society’s social circles.
One thing that wasn’t on was a tan since it was a working-class feature, and the belle was meant to be upper-class. There were certain fashion elements, too, which acted as signals for which class you were in: upper, middle, or lower. Perhaps the early bloomers can make their way into another class owing to the size of their assets.
