It might be surprising to see such a young island on this list, but Surtsey faced a massive volcanic eruption between 1963 and 1967. Due to its track record of being a dangerous place, only scientists and researchers have been able to get access in all these years.
Most people who head there are studying how the ecosystem is affected when there are no human factors affecting it. While the experts have asked people to keep the place untouched, some of them did manage to throw a few tomato seeds in there!
