Starving Child And Vulture (1993) – Kevin Carter
Kevin Carter grew up in Apartheid South Africa, always questioning why his parents didn’t fight the system. He did but ended up taking a beating for it. He became a photographer and a member of the photographic quartet known as the Bang-Bang Club, witnessing great heartache.
One such incident came when Carter was documenting the 1993 Sudan famine. He saw a hungry child struggling to reach a food station, with a vulture waiting to pounce. Carter couldn’t help the child for fear of disease but chased the vulture after taking the photo. He won a Pulitzer prize for the photo but sadly ended his own life in 1994 at 33.
