When Steven handed his watch over, the jeweler’s eyebrows shot up in shock. Without a word, he called in the cleaner, who was just as taken aback by the sorry state of the timepiece. It was unlike anything he’d seen before—a watch buried under layers of neglect.

“Don’t hold your breath,” the cleaner cautioned Steven, hinting that finding something worth salvaging might be a long shot. Yet, in the same breath, he reassured him, “But I’m on it.
