This icon of American supernatural and horror film was brought to life by Cassandra Peterson, an actress, writer, and singer. The Elvira image was inspired by her love for horror and work as a go-go dancer as a teen.
The most notable part of the Elvira image was the revealing, cleavage-enhancing dress and the pitch-black hair and gothic makeup. As the character, Petersen gained fame for hosting Elvira’s Movie Macabre, a weekly B-movie feature that popularized the B-horror genre. Petersen had a role in a 2021 film called Shoplifters of the World.
