Barbara Knox – Rita Tanner In Coronation Street

Barbara Knox is best known for her memorable character in the soap opera Coronation Street where she plays the role of Rita Tanner; currently recognized as the world’s longest-serving television soap opera actress. She first appeared for the role in 1964 then returned as a full-time cast in 1972 and has been with the show since.

Knox has made debut appearances on the shows Oldham Coliseum Theatre, Goodbye, Mr. Chips and Ken Dodd’s comedy in the 1972 series Funny You Should Say That. Several awards such as the Oracle Teletext Award for Best Actress adorn her mantle too.
