Thelma Barlow – Mavis Wilton In Coronation Street

Fans might revere Thelma Barlow as the iconic Mavis Wilton on Coronation Street, but the actress’s journey has been impressive, to say the least. Before hitting the silver screen, Thelma took up acting in her mid-teens, becoming part of an amateur dramatics group.

It wasn’t until the ’50s that she took up professional acting and joined the Joan Littlewood Theater Group. Thelma’s first show was Becky Sharp in 1967 before auditioning for Coronation Street. After almost three decades on the soap, the actress departed in 1997, but she hasn’t stopped acting. Since then, Thelma has appeared in various theatrical productions and performances.
