Prince Harry has been in the limelight after his marriage to Meghan Markle, a mixed-race actress. Since then, the couple has been subjected to unwanted and unrestrained criticism regarding their life decisions. The Duke and the Duchess decided to part ways with the royal family in an announcement made on January 8, 2020. The British Media was quick to place the blame on the new bride, and it was even dubbed as the ‘Megxit’.
After moving to California, the royal couple has been able to catch a breath as they recently announced that they were expecting their rainbow baby. Since then, the pair is also expected to sit down with renowned Host Oprah Winfrey to be aired on March 7.
Mental Health at Risk
In a much recent appearance, Prince Harry sat down with English actor and television host James Cordon. In the candid interview, he shed light on the reasons behind his departure from the royal family, though he has vowed never to leave his family behind.
He also shined a light on the dangerous impact of propaganda that the couple faced from the British media and how it affected his mental health. He later defended himself by adding that his decision to step back from his royal family was an effort to protect his wife and child.
The Queen’s Statement
Though Harry plans to continue his royal duties and his public service, this message came with its own reaction. Queen Elizabeth’s statement last Friday, which disapproved of the stepping down, stated that it would be impossible for them to step down and continue their services and duties simultaneously.
In response to this, the pair commented that they can continue serving others despite their split from the royal family. Prince Harry also mentioned to Corden that he intended on continuing his work as he was doing before.
Final Nail in the Coffin
The Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Duke and the Duchess will not be joining the royal family again. The announcement came after an entire 1-year break finalizing the split. The royal couple will no longer continue their royal duties.
This also means that the Duke and Duchess will not be allowed to use their royal titles – they will have to give up state funding and also repay the funds they used to renovate their former home, Windsor Castle.
