Same, Yet So Different
In addition to the neverending questions and pressure from strangers, both Lucy and Maria had attributes about themselves that they didn’t quite enjoy. For example, the latter was not happy with her curly hair—so much so that she used to cry about it.
However, things were much worse for Lucy. Other children were bullying her, often concerning her pale white skin, which made her the odd one out among her siblings. They even teased Lucy, calling her a ghost and saying she was adopted, and for a while there, she upsettingly believed them.
