Chuck Yeager, Age 97 – Flying Without Fear
Chuck Yeager is not an actor or a musician. He isn’t even a big-time businessman or socialite. Yeager is a historical figure who gained fame thanks to his exploits as a test pilot in the US Airforce. What was his most notable achievement? Well, he was the first pilot to fly faster than the speed of sound.
He achieved what is now known as Mach 1 (767mph) in 1947 with a Bell X-1 rocket-powered airplane. He got selected after the original pilot, Chalmers “Slick” Goodlin, demanded $150,000 to do it. His achievement went on to inspire many mainstream adaptations, including a movie called Flying Without Fear.
