Bethel, A Monument To The 1960s Counter-Culture Movement
We have mentioned before that Woodstock was not, contrary to the popular opinion, held in a town called Woodstock. The festival took place in Bethel, a small village located in a rural area of New York that will forever be marked by this unique event.
In 1998, American billionaire Alan Gerry acquired Woodstock’s site to build the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, a cultural institution located right where Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana delivered their iconic performances. Bethel is now like a place of pilgrimage for all the men and women who are interested in the 1960s counter-culture movement.
