Ulysses S. Grant was a successful general and faced one of the most difficult presidencies. However, he was known worldwide for attempting to bring unity to a divided country after the Civil War. Former President Grant was never known for being the wisest of investors or for having a lot of money in his pocket. Unfortunately for him, his life was plagued by financial struggles, before and after his time in office. Ironically, during his final years, he wrote his memoirs which were finally a push in the right direction regarding money matters.
